Is Northwest Las Vegas off the 95 a decent area to live?

I am from california and moving to vegas very very soon. I signed a lease for an apartment northwest of the strip. People say northwest of vegas is okay but north vegas is a bad area. I will live just right off the 95 around smoke ranch road, and west lake meed. For anybody who has lived around this area, is this place decent? bad? good?

I lived there at smoke ranch and torrey pines for ten years, its ok, not great. It had better days, alot of urbanization feel if you know what i mean. west of 95 it gets much better as you nearer summerlin and desert shores area. east of 95 it becomes shady. stay west of 95. North Las Vegas is not a good choice for anything.
