How to track toilet drainage pipe in 1950 ranch style house?

My friends want to add an addition toilet, but the house has no basement and they dont want to prize up the restroom floor to find drain pipes.
Are there any hints to track for these 3 in or 4 in pipe?
And where are they often located outside the house?

There’s really only one option. Call a drain company to do a locate. Even at that you will be “prizing” up the concrete no matter what. No way to connect it to the drain unless you connect it to the drain, ya know? I guess you could build your own septic system for just that bathroom…You could also use a macerator pump and just go for whatever drain you can reasonably locate yourself. Look, bottom line, you are tearing up the slab. It’s not good for the slab, it’s not good for the house. This is why slab houses are cheap. Once the drains and water services are in, they are in. No real good way to change them. I’d be fascinated to know how you ran the water service. Does the addition abut to an existing bathroom or the kitchen?

Your friend’s main is probably connected to the drains far under the slab. With a lot of ingenuity and a lot of heavy equipment, you could excavate, support, core out, and hook up a new bathroom without tearing up anything but the foundation of your friend’s house. I’d not recommend that path, but some people are insane. I’d seriously check out macerator pumps.
