Georgia Ranch
wild hog hunting in georgia?
Hi my aunt has a ranch in Georgia and latley she has had a serious problem with hogs, she has horses, peacocks, goats, and chickens and the hogs have been knocking down the coral and tearing up the pasture. So im going to hunt some boar there and have some questions. I will be hunting from a ground blind and was wondering what caliber rifle is good. Also what is the season for hog hunting in Georgia? and is it true that the smaller the pig is the better the eating? if so why? thanks for your time.
I suggest nothing smaller than a .308 for Ga hogs. And, I personally, don’t believe the whole deal about a smaller hog. I’ve eaten huge boar hogs, sows, yearlings.. can’t taste a difference. It’s all about how it’s cooked and if its ran a lot before it dies.
It’s nothin for hogs here in Ga to get over 500 lbs. No matter the size- go for a brain shot- aim for the ear canal- that will give you a thru-and-thru. A heart/lung shot isn’t the greatest for a hog because of the way their shoulder bones are made
