Digital radiography is becoming the standard of care in dentistry. There are many fine systems in use today by a variety of manufacturers. Dental digital radiography was introduced in Germany in 1995 by the Corporation Dexis and the United States in 1997. All digital radiology systems consists of:
- A digital sensor instead of film
- An image capture card (PCMCIA) or a processing device.
- Dental software for visualization image
- Software improvement
- Digital image storage capacity
When compared to film dental X-rays, digital radiography is equivalent (and in some cases better) than the conventional dental film. Because some of the software is able to improve digital image we think is even better than conventional dental radiography. Digital radiology advantage is seen at the root of endodontic (channels) in the file dental and the apex of the tooth needed to be viewed in great detail.

Digital radiographs are friendly to the environment
Traditional dental X-rays use of chemicals to develop and set the image to the film. These substances are not environmentally friendly. Furthermore, the X-ray film using traditional silver halide to develop the image and a mixture of silver is not released into the environment. Everyone benefits from this new technology.
Digital X-ray has been around for about ten dentistry years or more. The use of this imaging system benefits all dental patients.
