How can I save on my heating bill this winter?

Last yr I was in an apartment and was not concerned about it. However this yr I’m in a two bedroom ranch an I don’t want an outrageous gas bill. I have space heaters, and plan to put plastic over my windows in the next coming months. What else can I do to keep my cost down?

here’s what i do:

any rooms that you don’t use, close the vents in the rooms and close the door. put a towel at the bottom of the door to prevent drafts.

get plug outlet covers and put them in any unused outlets along outside walls.

make sure you have window coverings of some sort. heavy drapes or blinds insulate better than thin coverings.

set the temp on you water heater to 130 degrees. at this lower temperature, the heater will use less gas to heat, and it will still be hot enough to kill germs when doing dishes and laundry.

keep your showers short.
