Is there anyone else that hurts for these children?
This history of more than 400 children removed from Texas compound in me just torn. First rather than sexual abuse, marriages and now the foster care system. These children have been missing out on all sides. I'm devastated for them. What will make the State to accommodate its already over crowded foster care system? How can they help these children at the top of children already in the system? Any thoughts on this? What do you think is the best solution to this problem? Do you think adoption is the answer for these children? Their mothers are victims too? Are they entitled to leave with their children? What can a mother do to get back on their feet if you leave the compound without experience in the "outside" world? http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/04/07/texas.ranch/index.html
It is heartbreaking and, from what I have heard and read, very complicated. Here is an interview I heard this morning with the head of the Department of Family and Protective Services who is overseeing the care of children: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=89498037 Apparently, children and many women are now held together in the historic army barracks. It sounds as if the state of Texas not to rush into something permanent with these children. Of course, not adoption. And I would say that's a relief. I have no idea what would be best for these children. I think children and women and girls are the victims – because they have been brainwashed to think that girls should submit to the "spiritual marriage" (and physical sex) as soon as they reach puberty to much older men and women in the same thing when they were children and thought this was okay for their children, and boys thought girls dominating and being dominated by older men was the norm. All the points of view of what is right and normal and acceptable have been terribly distorted by all this, and for many generations (there was a raid 50 years ago too). I heard the 16 year old girl / mother who reported abuse was told that if she came into the world outside of her hair was cut and would be forced to have sex with many men (instead of being forced to have sex with just one – Reports said his broken ribs!). I have heard what many children do not know that the woman is his mother. I think this was intentional, part of the washing process brain children thought they were all one family and the outside world was dangerous. Everything is just tragic! I really do not know what the best solution might be, but certainly not to foreign adoption. Somehow the children need to be with women, because it is none of them has ever known. In the interview I think said there would be DNA testing to discover that children should go with the mothers. I think that some kind of supportive care for these families will need – None of them has the slightest idea of how to live in contemporary society, or keep a job. It's just all so complicated and tragic. It is clear that there can not leave of rape and forced marriage. But the elimination of separation from them would be terrible. Sounds like they're trying to keep them together for now and probably plus a species of the family later units. I think it's the best you can do.
