Willow Rounds Ranch
Rocky Mountain National Park, which covers only 400 square miles, is certainly not the largest park in the system, but many of its millions of visitors each year I will say it is one of the best U.S. national parks.
The centerpiece of the park for many is Trail Ridge Road, which is fifty miles long and crosses the park from east to west. The road descends into the valley Kawuneeche, where visitors can see the Colorado River, and on the way up to over of 12,000 meters as it passes through some of the highest peaks in America.
The views along this route are simply spectacular, and as you make your way through the roof famous "of the Rockies comes through glaciers, mountains, carved at each corner. Pause at Forest Canyon Overlook and can be seen along the alpine forests which are among the most magnificent you will see anywhere. It is also well worth taking the time to visit the Visitors Center of the Alps in Fall River where you can gather a wealth of information about the area, including maps and walking guides.
Rocky Mountain National Park offers a great walk to the over more than 350 miles of trails and Bear Lake is a popular starting point. Located at the base of Hallett's Peak on the Continental Divide, Bear Lake is a wonderful show itself.
Hiking in this area can be a bit more demanding than in other parks, with elevations ranging from 7,500 feet to 14,000 feet. These altitudes the air is thin and strong UV so you need to be prepared. You have to drink lots of water with you as the thin, cold air evaporates moisture from the lungs very quickly and headaches are common if you do not drink enough water.
If you are driving or walking there is plenty of wildlife to see how the park is home to more than 3,000 elk, 800 bighorn sheep and about 280 different bird species. If you visit the Bighorn Sheep in the lake between May and mid August you will see moose walking through the willows along the Colorado River in Kawuneeche and, if kept a close watch out, you can even detect some river otters too.
In both sunrise and sunset can be witnessed some of the many bats that hang over the lakes feed on insects and marmots are quite easy to spot on the tundra along the Old Fall River Road. Stellar jays also dot the sky along Trail Ridge Road and share the sky with hawks prairie and the occasional eagle. Another fascinating bird that requires the park is home to white-tailed ptarmigan.
The park is also home to a number of museums and historic sites that the Moraine Park Museum is one of the best. Here you will find hundreds of articles in the area that offers a good overview of the flora and natural fauna. Another favorite is the summer that never Ranch offers a look at what is a resource of past era.
Unlike some other national parks, Rocky Mountain Open all year, allowing you to explore this wonderful area in all seasons of glory and visit during the winter months not only let you see things that summer visitors simply do not experience, but also allow you to see the park without the usual summer crowds.
